Bishop Hedgepeth

About me as an author & what is ButterflyHeartz

Hi everyone I’m Bishop Hedgepeth. As a graphic storyteller, I’m drawn to narratives that feel both mythic and intimate. Stories where high-stakes worlds and deep emotional undercurrents coexist. My storytelling often explores psychological tension, moral ambiguity, and transformation through symbolic visuals, layered characters, and immersive worldbuilding. I’m especially interested in how sci-fi and supernatural genres can reflect real-life human emotions, identity struggles, and the consequences of our inner and outer conflicts.

I’ve always been in some way shape or form a creator, when I was less than ten years old I remember creating my first original character named Dante Jackson, someone who I had hoped would make it into Marvel Comics one day, and who I’m still developing now. However, at that age I always found it difficult putting my ideas to the page, and writing, and creating was sort of a hobby put on the back burner while I coasted through public school. Since starting college I fully realized my passion. I've started many personal projects that I hope to turn into graphic novels or webcomics one day, Sony’s Labyrinth, Bit by Bit, and God Complex, just to name a few. My current project, Flowers of Typhon, which I’ll show as pitch later in this portfolio, is a webcomic that embodies much of what I hope to do as a creator. Building this story challenged me to think more critically about visual pacing, emotional beats, and audience engagement on platforms like Webtoon.

Butterfly Heartz

Butterfly Heartz is a concept I created for myself when I was trying to process grief and burnout at the same moment. I was really into pholisphy, or atleast the concept of it at the time and wanted to make something for myself. I gave it an identifier and ran with it as sort of a brand. Butterfly Heartz represent the metamorphosis of the heart, a personal and shared evolution of feeling, belief, and connection that transcends logic. It is a bond that forms and strengthens through quiet transformation, not through force, expectation, or mental control.
